So I will introduce myself here a bit.
I am the founder of the Linux User Group Saskatchewan.
I started using computers back in the 80s with a ZX Sinclair. after that I went to a C64, Amiga 500, Amiga 1200, PC XT, 286, 386, and so on.... In the forst three month of my Computer time I was typing in codes for games from computer magazines, and finally played them excessive. After three month I though since that thing is a computer it should be able to do more than just games and so I started to learn to code. First of course Basic, later Turbo Pascal, C++, and now a bit of Python, a lot of HTML, PHP, Javascript and CSS. My hobby today is coding websites.
I actually coded the website for the User Group.
For a long time I was bound to Microsoft. First with MS-Dos, later Windows 3.1, Windows 98 etc. In 1999 I tried for the first time Linux with the OpenSUSE distro. It was interesting but at that time not really an alternative to Windows. So I kept going back to Windows. And then came 2025. After going back and forth with many different Linux Distributions and flavours, I finally switched completely to Linux. Many reasons but the most important maybe: Microsoft declared war on older computers. Just because my older system didn't meet the new Windows requirements Microsoft decided Windows can't install on that? For security reasons? Really? Everyone knows that Microsoft is the biggest security threat out there. And then AI... I decide if I want AI on my computer, not Microsoft or any other big tech company.
So today I run my system on CachyOS as my everyday and the other part of my hardrive (funny that we still call it that) sees new distros every couple weeks.
So thats pretty much it about me... Ihope to see something from you guys too here soon.
