Field Application Engineer

About this Role

Our client is a fast-growing pioneer in agricultural robotics. They design and build autonomous farm machines that use computer vision and machine learning to help farmers understand and manage their fields at a plant-by-plant level. As an independent subsidiary of a global agricultural machinery leader, they combine the pace of a technology startup with the resources to bring new products to farms at scale. Their mission is to improve food production and farm profitability while reducing pesticide use. The role We are seeking a hands-on Field Application Engineer to develop, test, and support next-generation smart farm machines in Canada. Saskatchewan is the preferred base, with frequent travel to farms and test sites across the Prairie provinces.

You will be the link between field operations and the engineering team: testing machinery in real conditions, solving technical problems on site, and turning what you learn into improvements to the product. The role may also offer opportunities to collaborate with and travel to colleagues in the United States.

Key responsibilities

• Field testing: Carry out hardware, software, and machine vision tests on agricultural machinery, and produce clear test reports.
• Technical support: Collect field data and diagnose and resolve electrical, mechanical, and software issues on site.
• Collaboration: Work with customers, product management, agronomy, and engineering teams to communicate field performance and user needs.
• Documentation: Help create product documentation, user guides, and training materials.
• Issue management: Track recurring technical issues from identification through resolution.
• Equipment setup: Set up, calibrate, maintain, and transport field-testing equipment as needed. What we are looking for Required

• Professional fluency in English, written and spoken.
• A bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in engineering, computer science, agriculture, or a related technical field.
• Experience supporting, troubleshooting, or maintaining complex agricultural machinery or comparable electromechanical equipment.
• Strong diagnostic skills across hardware, software, electrical, and mechanical systems.
• Clear communication skills and confidence working directly with customers and colleagues.
• A valid driver's licence, a safe driving record, and willingness to travel frequently to agricultural sites. Preferred

• Familiarity with Linux and basic scripting, particularly Python.
• Experience planning or carrying out design verification testing.
• Familiarity with CAD software such as SolidWorks.
• Experience with precision agriculture, machine vision, or autonomous equipment. Working conditions This is an active field role involving outdoor work through the Canadian growing season and in varying weather conditions. Field activities can include standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing around large machinery, and moving testing equipment. Some equipment weighs up to 25 pounds, and heavier items may occasionally weigh up to 50 pounds. The role also involves inspecting equipment and camera output during machine vision testing.
